Mission
MERLIN seeks to foster sustained dialogue and collaboration among researchers and educators interested in multimodal approaches to learning and communication. The network aims to:
· Advance interdisciplinary scholarship on multimodality in education;
· Support early-career researchers and doctoral students through mentoring and collaborative opportunities;
· Promote knowledge exchange through conferences, seminars, and webinars;
· Encourage the development of methodological and analytical innovations in multimodal research;
· Translate multimodal research into meaningful educational practice and policy insights.
Activities
MERLIN will undertake the following activities to realise its mission:
· Webinar Series: Regular online seminars featuring leading scholars, emerging researchers, and practitioner perspectives on multimodality in education.
· Biennial Conference: A gathering of the international community to share research, develop collaborations, and chart new directions in multimodal studies.
· Publication Initiatives: Development of edited volumes, special journal issues, and, in the longer term, an international peer-reviewed journal dedicated to multimodality and learning.
· Collaborative Research and Resource Sharing: Facilitating joint projects, shared datasets, and open educational resources to strengthen the field’s collective knowledge base
