The Multimodality in Educational Research and Learning International Network (MERLIN) brings together scholars, educators, and practitioners who share an interest and commitment to multimodality and learning.
MERLIN envisions a vibrant global community that research on how meanings are made across different modes of communication and how such understandings can inform the design of learning experiences. Learning is understood, in the broadest sense, as a process of meaning-making that occurs through participation in communication and social practices that includes but goes beyond the classroom.
Stemming from the Multimodality Special Interest Group founded at the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, MERLIN represents the growth of the group as it widens its membership and participation to an international network comprising scholars, educators, and practitioners from around the world.
